How Are On-Site Asbestos Tests Conducted?

On-site Asbestos testing is done without physical sampling and without removing any material from your property.

We use world-class infrared technology to accurately measure whether or not a material contains asbestos. Our Portable Near-infrared Spectrometer (microPHAZIR™ AS Asbestos Analyzer) is designed and manufactured by Thermo Fischer Scientific, one of the worlds leading manufacturers of scientific instruments.

The microPHAZIR AS Asbestos Analyser gives accurate results within seconds, offering peace of mind sooner and without any of the risks associated with sample removal for laboratory analysis.

We perform as many asbestos tests as necessary, throughout your entire property and without any risk to the occupants of your building. We will access any of the areas where necessary and physically possible – including places such as sub-floor, shed, roof interior and roof exterior.

Once our testing is complete, we walk you through all of our findings and once we return to the office, we write and email you a comprehensive report including photos, a risk assessment on the status of the suspicious material, and a basic floor plan of the building. Each of the photos will be presented with a colour code to signify whether (presumed) the material in question contains asbestos. We then plot these findings onto the floor plan, giving you a quick and easy visual reference. Suspicious (presumed) samples may (or may not) be sent to a NATA laboratory, accredited for PLM-DS analysis, to verify/confirm our PNIRS (portable near-infrared spectroscopy) results.

General Asbestos Concerns

Yes, asbestos is safe provided it is left undisturbed and the fibres are not exposed. If you’re in doubt, consult an expert to aide in the identification of asbestos containing materials.

Buildings constructed between approximately 1930 and 1990 are likely to contain asbestos containing materials. All types of buildings; including houses, units, townhouses, warehouses, commercial lots and office buildings could contain asbestos.

If your building was constructed between 1930 and 1990 it is strongly advisable to consult a professional about having your property tested for asbestos. If your property contains asbestos, it’s important that your tradespeople are made aware before they begin work on your property. Extra care should be taken to ensure that asbestos fibres and not disturbed and spread.

The process of asbestos inspection and management is safe – so long as the job is left to the experts. Accessing previously undisturbed areas and taking samples can in itself release dangerous fibres into the air. It also takes a trained eye to determine whether it’s best to remove asbestos-containing material, to encapsulate it – or to leave it in the original area. In short, leave it to a trained inspector.

Onsite Asbestos Testing

Every building is different, and therefor each of our comprehensive reports are tailored to suit the requirements of our clients. However, prices start at $399.

There is no limit to the number of tests conducted. Any ‘suspicious’ material is tested on site. Some samples are also sent to a NATA laboratory accredited for PLM-DS.

All tests & samples are already included in our quoted asbestos survey price.

No. In most cases, the majority of areas can be easily accessed, some items only need to be shifted when necessary. This can easily be determined at the time of inspection.

Minimal (or no) fibres are disturbed, and therefore there is no exposure or any risk for inhaling the dangerous fibres – keeping the asbestos surveyor and occupants of the building free of risk.
