General Asbestos Concerns
Is it safe to have asbestos in my building?
Yes, asbestos is safe provided it is left undisturbed and the fibres are not exposed. If you’re in doubt, consult an expert to aide in the identification of asbestos containing materials.
What type of building is likely to have asbestos?
Buildings constructed between approximately 1930 and 1990 are likely to contain asbestos containing materials. All types of buildings; including houses, units, townhouses, warehouses, commercial lots and office buildings could contain asbestos.
Do I need to be concerned about asbestos when renovating?
If your building was constructed between 1930 and 1990 it is strongly advisable to consult a professional about having your property tested for asbestos. If your property contains asbestos, it’s important that your tradespeople are made aware before they begin work on your property. Extra care should be taken to ensure that asbestos fibres and not disturbed and spread.
How safe is the asbestos testing process?
The process of asbestos inspection and management is safe – so long as the job is left to the experts. Accessing previously undisturbed areas and taking samples can in itself release dangerous fibres into the air. It also takes a trained eye to determine whether it’s best to remove asbestos-containing material, to encapsulate it – or to leave it in the original area. In short, leave it to a trained inspector.
Onsite Asbestos Testing
How much does onsite asbestos testing cost?
Every building is different, and therefor each of our comprehensive reports are tailored to suit the requirements of our clients. However, prices start at $399.
When do I get the results of the asbestos tests?
Test results are immediate. We walk you through all of our findings and we supply a written report within 24-48 hours of the inspection, sometimes even earlier, if reports are urgently required.
How many tests are carried out?
There is no limit to the number of tests conducted. Any ‘suspicious’ material is tested on site. Some samples are also sent to a NATA laboratory accredited for PLM-DS.
All tests & samples are already included in our quoted asbestos survey price.
Do I need to remove furniture before my onsite asbestos test?
No. In most cases, the majority of areas can be easily accessed, some items only need to be shifted when necessary. This can easily be determined at the time of inspection.
Is there any danger to the occupants during the testing process?
Minimal (or no) fibres are disturbed, and therefore there is no exposure or any risk for inhaling the dangerous fibres – keeping the asbestos surveyor and occupants of the building free of risk.
